History of San Crispolto
San Crispolto was originally built in the 13th century. It was left to near ruin until 1998 when it was purchased and the process of reconstruction began. Every detail has been carefully considered to maintain the authenticity of both the time and the sentiment of Saint Crispolto.
Saint Crispolto was the first archbishop of Bettona during 58 AD. He is believed to have performed many miracles here in this community. The Romans out of fear of his benevolence persecuted him. After two attempts to execute him failed - first by drowning, and second by immolation - he was tortured to death. After his canonization, the church was erected in his land for his honor during the 13th century. |
